Dublin, Ga. is a small town located in central Georgia and is my hometown. It is in Laurens county and while it is one of the largest counties in the state, it only has a total population of around 40,000. Because of its location, halfway between Atlanta and Savannah, Ga., it is a major industrial hub for Georgia.
Dublin's (actually East Dublin, Ga.'s) claim to fame is the Redneck Games that takes place every July. This event has received coverage from MTV, CMT and many international sources. It began as a tribute to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and is currently in its tenth year.
Let me be the first to tell you that this is a huge deal in people's summer agenda. Participants train and prepare year round for events like the mudpit belly flop, armpit serenade and the redneck horseshoes, played using old toilet seats instead of horseshoes of course. This is serious! Check out these guys, they're hardcore!
